Hive is the world’s first ultra-long life, battery-powered, completely cordless Wi-Fi security camera. It is the modern, affordable way for you, your closest family, friends and neighbors to secure and protect the places, people and things you care about most. Hive is easily installed, runs on your existing Wi-Fi network, and is controlled through your mobile device. When the armed camera senses motion, it sends encrypted video to the Hive cloud and notifies your community via SMS, push, email, voice, Facebook and Twitter. Your Hive community then uses our mobile and web apps to respond to the alert appropriately.

The Hive system is comprised of two main assemblies; the camera itself, and the magnetic wall mount. The rear metal cover on the camera is a large portion of the sphere. The combination of the large surface area of the rear metal cover and the silcone ring nestled in the centre of the magnetic mounting disc allows for unlimited positioning options for the camera, satisfying all end user requirements for mounting positions. This is effective in providing customization for the individual, and by utilizing double sided adhesive tape the unit can be installed in seconds, no tools required.
The combination of innovative technologies and elegant styling created not only a highly functional product but a designer piece, and an object of desire. Utilizing co-moulded processes for the front facia,a spun metal chrome plated back that also provides access to the batteries and a high gloss injection moulded body, the form is intrinsically strong, sleek, durable and discreet. The design aesthetic is a result of the design teams pursuit for size efficiency, robustness, discretion, strength, and the desire to communicate this in its form when held, seen or used.
In the home security market, professionally monitored services charge $30-50/month, and the consumer is locked into a multi-year contract. Mainly, these services are video-free and have a system of costly call centers that blindly alert the police when a sensor goes off. 98% of the time these are false alarms that add unnecessarily cost of the service. This business model targets homewoners with high credit ratings leaving millions of households under-served - young, urban dwellers, renters, low-income families, etc. Hive changes this by integrating social, mobile and cloud technologies to lower costs, we'll bring affordable home security to everyone.
When the camera is armed and senses motion, live video is captured and streamed to the Hive AWS cloud. The Hive cloud then immediately alerts you and your Hive community of the incident via SMS, push, email, voice, a direct message Tweet, or Facebook message. You can immediately log into any of our apps to see footage of what’s happening and take actions based on what you see. The video is saved for up to 30 days, and the video is downloadable, in case you need to share it with the police.
