The range comprises a whisky glass, a high-ball glass, a wine glass and a champagne flute. Palm Products is 100% Australian owned and this range is manufactured in Melbourne, Australia. The Marc Newson designed range is beautifully proportioned, with smooth gently curving shapes and with well weighted bases giving them a glass like look and feel. A notable feature is how good they are to hold. The designs are not confronting and have a human scale. The range has a strong designer look and has a unifying family feel. The surfaces are perfectly machined and are polished to 1 micron, giving them a finish that is superior to most glassware. The clarity and sparkle are best-in-class.
These glasses are typically used outdoors where the surface may be uneven or slippery, and where they may be subject to movement and to wind. The non-slip base makes a major contribution to stability, particularly on sloping and moving surfaces. Secondary benefits of the non-slip base are that it acts as a coaster, insulating the glass from a bench. Also, the soft non-slip base acts a shock absorber, giving the range a solid glass-like "thud" when placed on a hard surface, rather than the "tink" normally associated with competitors.
The non-slip material of the base is available in 6 vivid colours. They add a dimension of fun and fashion and assist with the ranges' designer look and family feel. Unbreakable glasses are typically used in less formal situations and in the outdoors where the coloured bases are appropriate. The green base version glows-in-the-dark and is of particular benefit in low-light situations such as for cruising yachts, camping and at home as a bed-side glass. The range can be individualized further through custom colours for the base and tinted colours for the top.
The range has been designed to be stable. The glasses have a low centre of gravity, being compact in height and with wide bases. The tumblers have a weighty base section and the wine and flute have weighty sections in their base, stem and top. The tumblers stack without sticking onto a precision rim. Space is often at a premium at home, when camping and when boating.
