Description
The new Audi Q3 is the newest member of the compact premium SUV vehicle market. The design is innovative because it brings the swooping lines of a sports coupe to the SUV segment for the first time, while offering a class-leading aerodynamic co-efficient of 0.32Cd. Despite the coupe-like roofline, passenger headroom is not compromised. We think this design is an excellent balance of form and function.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
The singleframe grille dominates the front of the entire Audi Q family: Q7, Q5 and now Q3. It is a unique Audi design feature and can be traced through the brand's heritage, back to the 1930s Auto Union Type C racing cars. This prominent tribute is a fitting embodiment of Audi's three brand pillars: sportiness, progressiveness and sophistication.
The tapered edges of the Singleframe grille flow nicely into the optional Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. The distinctive shape of the U-shaped LED daytime running lights, along with the intricate detail visible inside the lamp itself, gives the Q3 a formidable visual presence. Xenon and LED light technology not only looks attractive in complementing the Q3's handsome styling, but they also ensure a high level of safety thanks to the increased visibility on the road.
Like the rest of the Audi Q family, the Q3 features the distinctive wrap-around tailgate that is characterised by the continuation of the shoulder line of the car into the undivided rearlights (which are also available with LED technology). The tailgate accentuates the vehicle's width, yet with the rear door opened, allows for easy loading.
The coupe-like sloping roofline offers aesthetically pleasing angles from all sides. As the roofline gently slopes downward at the rear, it gives the Q3 a uniquely sporty stance, as it looks hunkered down on all four wheels, ready for action. However, the relationship between the window (glasshouse) and the sheetmetal line preserves headroom for all passengers.
The Audi Q3 has been designed to utilise high-quality materials inside and out. The bonnet and rear tailgate are made of aluminium, which reduces the weight of these parts by 50 percent. This is important for fuel efficiency. The passenger safety cell structure utilises strategically placed ultra high-strength steels to ensure the highest levels of passenger safety. As a result, the Audi Q3 was awarded the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating.
Inside, Audi uses only the finest materials to ensure the Q3's cabin sets a new benchmark for interior quality in its class.
