Description
The Citroën DS5 is a new concept in automobile design. Like the original DS designed in 1955 it steps out of norms to create its own unique category. Today’s Citroën DS5 is not a hatch, it’s not a coupe and it is not a sedan. It stands alone as a mid-sized car that is all of these and more. It’s brave. Its exterior design cues are carried into a cockpit influenced interior. All of the elements designed with a purpose, the watchstrap seating designed to never forget its heritage. It is after all a Citroën DS.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
The original DS was herald as a leader in innovative technology; this tradition is continued with the Citroën DS5. The term “Creative Technologie” is used to describe the DS5’s more interesting features including: a lane departure warning system, automatic activation of the high-beam function depending on surrounding traffic, head-up display in colour, and a programmable speed limiter/cruise control system. Not to be forgotten are the tried and tested technologies such as intelligent traction control, hill-start assist, an electric parking brake, rear parking sensors/reverse parking camera, hands-free access/starting and fog lamps with static cornering lights.
The eye-catching exterior of the Citroën DS5 is available in eight body colours which are cloaked in chrome-finished details (side strips, double tail pipe, sabre toothed styling) and gloss black accents (front and rear bumper strips, window weather strips). In particular the chrome “sabres” which stretch from the headlights to the windscreen emphasise the DS5’s daring design. At 4.53 m long, 1.85 m wide and 1.51 m high, the DS5 is sleek and compact. This compact design brings two advantages: more agility and responsiveness but also improved fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
The interior of the Citroën DS5 is inspired by the world of aviation with the cockpit roof as the most symbolic feature. The roof is divided into three wells of light (0.58 m2 of glazed area); each one can be covered individually with just the push of a button. The compact exterior which looks more like a coupe is misleading with seating for five adults and a generous boot volume of 465 liters. The interior ambiance is perfected by the optional watchstrap leather which is crafted from the finest leathers and traces our heritage back to its launch in 1955.
The Citroën DS5 has earned a five star Euro NCAP rating by incorporating several intelligent safety features into the design. To ensure you always remain in the correct lane, the third generation lane departure warning system alerts the driver when departing lanes through vibrations in the seat. To ensure maximum stability on the road the Citroën DS5 is equipped with electronic aides including: brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, ABS, intelligent traction control and ESP. Additional safety features include rear parking sensors/reverse parking camera, fog lamps with static cornering lights, automatic headlights and automatic rain sensing windshield wipers.
The design approach of the Citroën DS5 combines good looks with aerodynamic efficiency. The side air intakes on the bumper visually widen the front end while channeling the air flow around the wheels. The one-piece polycarbonate headlight features built-in aerodynamic deflectors. The result is an extremely aerodynamic design, with a coefficient of just 0.29. The Citroën DS5 is powered by two EURO 5 compliant engines, a 115kw Petrol or a 119kw Diesel engine which produces 154 CO2 g/km with a combined economy of 5.9 l/100km.
