Description
This system for managing healthcare wastes incorporates a purpose-designed and engineered reusable 64 litre bin, custom-made mounting & logistics accessories, and factory-based robotic processing equipment for emptying and sanitising containers between uses.
Historically, the medical waste industry worldwide has simply adapted industrial-style mobile garbage bins (MGBs) for the collection and transport of this hazardous waste. However the industry is being revolutionised with the introduction of the CLINISMART system.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
The size and foot-pedal operation of the container, coupled with pre-implementation auditing and education, ensure healthcare staff are able to more effectively segregate waste at the point of disposal. This results in more items being correctly diverted to general waste and recycling and less items discarded as medical waste (a waste stream which requires special treatment and higher costs). Being smaller the containers are more likely to be full when removed unlike the less efficient MGB, and being unlined, they eliminate the large plastic liners used in MGBs.
Purpose-designed logistics equipment allows multiple containers to be delivered and collected within a healthcare facility at the same time, whereas industrial-style MGBs are designed to be handled one at a time.
Deliveries to and from the healthcare facility are also more efficient with purpose-designed roll-on, roll-off bulk transport units which hold multiple Clinismart containers.

The tough, ABS plastic containers are designed to meet United Nations specifications for transport of dangerous goods and are strong enough to withstand puncturing by sharp items that may be inadvertently discarded into them.
Tamper-proof locks ensure waste is securely contained and cannot be accessed from the moment the container is locked at the healthcare facility. Once at the robotic processing plant, the container is robotically unlocked and the hazardous medical waste is safely decanted and treated for disposal, thus eliminating any manual handling of waste bags. Being unlined, the container also eliminates sharps injury risk to healthcare workers who up until now had to reach inside MGBs to retrieve collapsed liners

Clinismart reusable containers are intensely sanitised to remove waste residues and organisms using an automated, time/temperature controlled wash-process (which can remove a 6 log pathogen challenge). The foot-pedal operation removes the hand-contamination risk of staff lifting MGB lids and being unlined there is no potential for staff to contaminate clothing when leaning into MGBs to retrieve or straighten liners.
