Description
DaVinci Resolve is a precision hardware control surface and integrated software used for motion picture colour grading. DaVinci Resolve is one of the most widely used colour grading tools, used on films such as Avatar, Hurt Locker and Robin Hood.
Colour grading is almost like holding the image in your hands - where tactile controls are used to make the most subtle of emotional changes to the moving real time imagery. Davinci Resolve provides colour artists with unparalleled functionality to achieve these subtle adjustments through a suite of custom designed, high precision, controls.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
Ergonomic user studies lead to a design that curves around the operator so that all input control's can be easily reached without having to lean awkwardly. The panels are broken into 3 discreet units so that optimum operating position can be achieved.
The custom designed knobs and trackball's are ergonomically positioned around the operators hands leaving the on screen interface clear of clutter for better visual feedback.
The minimal aesthetic showcases the controls and features chamfered edges to enhance ergonomics. Thin profiles and undercut edges make the new Control Surface appear thin and light reflecting the cutting edge technology.

Revolutionary 3-axis trackballs allow Lift, Gamma and Gain adjustments to be made on a single input device without moving your hand. The Trackball uses laser and optical sensors to provide extremely fine colour adjustments. The unique design has the sensors positioned behind an optically clear polycarbonate housing preventing them from clogging with dirt from daily use.
High pressure Aluminium Die Cast enclosure's offer an extremely rigid and strong work surface with a high level of surface finish and very thin wall sections. This is a key factor in reducing the shipping weight to a half of the old product.

Colour grading artists work in dark rooms to ensure monitor clarity, so the panels feature customisable RGB backlit keys and a range of matte surfaces to minimize glare from monitors.
To increase functionality, a custom designed 'soft' encoder knob was developed which can quickly switch between modes by depressing it, opening up a new array of functionality. The knobs appear to 'float' over the display's to ensure control and feedback are seamlessly connected. Utilising a 'magnetic encoder chip' allows the knob to float over the displays whilst also providing an infinite number of rotational adjustments for extremely precise colour adjustment.

The previous DaVinci product was complex to assemble and heavy to ship around the world. A radical internal redesign has eliminated the need for an internal Motherboard and Powersupply. Combined with a thorough rationalisation of mechanical parts, the number of internal components has been reduced by 65% and assembly time reduced by 90% - from 3 days to just 2.5 hours!
The overall weight has been halved and the shipping cost and carbon footprint have been reduced significantly. The cost reduction achieved has helped lower the price from $150,000 to $29,995 and opened up an entire new customer base.

Carefully considered ergonomics, simplification of controls and a logical user interface have made the DaVinci Resolve the choice for the world's top colour artists. It has been used on a range of Academy award winning films including Avatar, Robin Hood and Quantum of Solace. According to Tony Dustin, colourist on 'The Fighter,' "I was able to use it as a surgical tool to bring the filmmakers' vision to life."
