Description
The i40 was designed at the Hyundai European design centre in Russelsheim, Germany.
i40 is a mid-sized car that presents a polished and sophisticated interpretation of Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture" design language, combining emotive design with intelligent practicality.
i40 received the prestigious Golden Award at EuroCarBody Conference, held in Germany in October 2011, beating nine of Europe's and Japan's largest automakers to the prize. The judges praised the advanced engineering and effective use of materials, as well as the production efficiency of the i40.
i40 is all about making an impression.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
The signature hexagonal front grille is balanced with complimentary 'eagle-eye' head lamps projecting a confident first impression. A large chiselled front bumper delivers a focal point, while the bonnet character lines radiate European flair.
The elegant side character line extends from the top of the front wheel arch to the rear combination lamps.
The interior design is an extension of its organically flowing exterior. The use of ambient lighting create a luxurious and thoroughly modern interior setting.
i40 mid and high trim variants also bring a segment first automatic front windscreen de-fog function (Elite and Premium variants) to the mid-sized car segment. When the first droplets of condensation are detected on the windscreen, the sensor automatically initiates the defogging cycle.
LED daytime running lights provide a distinctive glow to i40, enhancing visibility. The addition of LED daytime running lights offers a further passive safety treatment for pedestrians and other road operators.
Additional low beam static bending lamps provide improved side illumination during cornering in the steering direction by throwing an additional light beam outwards and sideways.
VSM integrates all the active safety systems in the vehicle, including the MDPS steering, intervening alongside other active safety features such as ESC and ABS to help maintain vehicle control by applying a variable input to steering weight. This helps prevent the vehicle losing control in emergency situations, such as when suddenly braking or rapidly accelerating under asymmetric road conditions.
The all-new 1.7-litre U-II CRDi diesel engine option utilises Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDi) technology and innovations such as a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT), and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler to achieve a 4.7 L/100km best-in-class combined fuel economy* when mated to the six-speed manual transmission,
