Description
LORADS III Singapore Air Traffic Control Consoles. The primary console module is the "Dual" and is easily adjustable to a be a single or dual operator position. There are also a number of other console variants based on this design with different functional requirements. The consoles are installed at two sites: Singapore Air Traffic Control Centre (Dual, Support and Watch Manager Variants) Singapore Aviation Academy (Dual, Support and Watch Manager Variants)
Key Features
and/or Benefits
The Dual console is a modular design and is configurable into variable length rows or can be stand alone. The gentle arc of each row, flowing shapes and striking overhead map display “wing” support are both visually elegant and functional. Extensive use of custom aluminium extrusions provides a light and open appearance and visual link with aviation functionality.
Adjustment of the second main display from single to dual position is achieved by a user operated slide action that adjusts both the position and angle of the screen in one simple motion. The custom mechanism to achieve this unique feature is designed for high durability, low maintenance and smooth and silent operation.
The consoles have been designed to ensure optimum screen and equipment placement for controllers. The primary screens are positioned in height and angle to avoid fatigue and all interactive touch screens are within a comfortable reach. Frequent use and system critical equipment placement has been prioritised. Table surfaces are continuous between consoles for ease of operator movement. A durable fabric on the upper portion of the console reduces noise transmission. An independent ergonomic report is available if required. The acoustics make this one of the quietest consoles in the world with an average reading from 1m of 49dB(A).
All console finishes have been designed for long-term durability. The primary structure is steel and aluminium. Table surfaces are a full thickness solid surface acrylic based material that will not peel, crack or stain. All sliding and adjustable systems use the highest quality parts available or are purpose designed to ensure long-term reliability.
Air traffic control is a systems critical work environment. Potential for distraction from the task at hand must be minimised. The LORADS consoles have been designed to avoid screen reflections and any sharp edges on operator surfaces or equipment. Ample storage has been provided to avoid cluttered work surfaces. The console rear is easily accessed for equipment maintenance and has been designed to ensure minimal interference with console operation. The consoles are fully compliant to five international standards (CP5:1998, BS7671, HFDS2002, TIA/EIA568.B, IEC 60297-1) and all relevant International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO’s) standards.
