Inspired by the theme of the Lusail project "Water is Life", the Marina takes its influence from the corroded, curved edges of the coastal landscape to form its sculptural rounded edges and seemingly floating structure.
Sensitive to the harsh Middle-Eastern climate, the Marina provides a seating solution that is both functional and beautiful.

The Marina seat is a cutting-edge, innovative design which utilizes minimal materials in a deceptively complex form, whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality and usability that will stand the test of time.
Drawing upon its scenic waterfront surrounds, Marina's gently sloping edges offer a timeless elegance which adapts seamlessly to its environment. Combining a minimal aesthetic with modern engineering, the Marina creates a synergy between classic and futuristic styles, allowing the furniture to engage with its environment rather than dominate it.
In order to achieve functionality in such a harsh climate, the Marina utilizes the highest quality materials and manufacturing processes. Pushing the limitations of aluminum casting production, HUB was able to manage the production of extraordinarily sized castings whilst maintaining the highest level of finish. Using these large castings, HUB was able to specially engineer the rear support brace, to allow the Marina seat appear as though it is floating, emulating the surrounding artifacts on the water.
Although the Lusail Street Furniture has been designed to stand the test of time, HUB Street Equipment has prioritized the need for creating a sustainable and recyclable solution. The seating materials are made of cast aluminium, stainless-steel fasteners and hardwood timber slats, which not only complement and accentuate the design, they are all 100% recyclable.
HUB Street Equipment takes a great deal of pride in knowing where and how its materials are sourced, with a focus on supporting the local economy. Australian Spotted Gum timber was specified for the slats to ensure a locally sourced and sustainable product was provided.
Considering the Marina furniture would have to be transported overseas, HUB cleverly designed a system that enabled the product to be flat-packed to minimize its environmental impact during the distribution process. Utilizing a modular structure, the Marina makes maximum use of minimum space, reducing the amount of packaging used whilst also reducing the amount of space it occupies during shipment.
Having an understanding of the Middle-Eastern climate where summer temperatures usually surpass 50°C, HUB took an ergonomic approach to its design to ensure optimal comfort in extreme conditions. All metal components of the Marina seat are concealed beneath the structure to ensure that any human contact occurs only with the timber - which acts as a natural thermal dampener. The rear location of the supporting brace also reduces the risk of the user touching metal components with their feet or legs.
