The MC40 is the first multi-purpose mobile computer for retail that incorporates inventory management with collaboration and line-busting mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) capabilities in a compelling form factor. It offers a refined design that rivals popular consumer-style products on the outside and is pure business on the inside — enterprise-class durability, security and a comprehensive set of features including advanced bar code scanning, push-to-talk and an integrated magnetic stripe reader. Using the MC40, an associate can stay at a customer’s side and look up answers to product questions, present product comparisons, place an order for delivery and ring up a sale.

Retails are increasingly putting consumer grade smartphones in the hands of their associates as a sales and productivity tool. Typical smartphones are appealing due to low cost and ease of use, but fall short in terms of durability and lack the integration of critical enterprise features such as barcode scanning and payment, and swappable batteries. The MC40 combines the appealing aspects of a consumer device with the enterprise-specific features that retailer's have been craving. The solution goes beyond just the device to include a charging and accessory ecosystem that seamlessly integrates the device with the retail enterprise.
To meet the demands of years of use in a retail environment the MC40 is built to a rugged spec. In order to achieve the goals of slim, appealing form factor with extreme ruggedization, the team took a non-traditional approach to the design. The housing of MC40 is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum; this process allowed the team to optimize the structure of the housing to provide strength in critical areas while thinning it in others. The result is an extremely durable and precise housing "backbone" that also looks and feels fantastic. Spec: MIL Spec 810G, IP54 sealed.
MC40 takes another step beyond consumer grade devices by offering a rich customization platform to retailers. Device and App strategies are increasingly becoming an important factor in retailer's brand strategies. MC40 is designed facilitate retailers extending their brand story to the device. MC40 accomplishes this through a customization plan that is offered to purchasers. The CNC aluminum housing can be anodized any color in short run production batches, and there are front and real branding labels where logo's can be added. Through the customization plan, MC40 can become a deep extension of retailers' brand stories.
Retailers who are currently using consumer smartphones are forced to use clunky add on-accessories to enable capabilities such as barcode scanning and mag stripe readers (MSR) for taking payment. The shortcomings of add-ons are increased bulk, lack of durability, and compromised ergonomics. With MC40, critical bar code scanning and MSR features have been completely streamlined into the design of the device in a way that doesn't compromise size, and at the same time enhances ergonomic performance. The ambidextrous MSR design, and symmetrical quick access scanner side keys work great for left or right handed users. All in a rugged package.
MC40 is a total solution for retailers because it solves their needs beyond just the device. MC40 is backed by an accessory ecosystem of device and quick swap battery chargers that facilitates device sharing shift-to-shift. A low-profile magnetic handstrap and holster aid use of the device during rigorous productivity tasks and offer the user a way to manage the device when not in use. MC40 runs a standard version of the Android OS, thereby reducing the employee training required compared to more industrial device offerings. Android also enables 3rd party developers to create innovative retail applications for the device.
