Description
media:scape with HD videoconferencing creates dynamic settings for distributed teams to view each other and co-create content. While most videoconferencing environments are formal meeting spaces, with little emphasis on team collaboration, media:scape with HD videoconferencing encourages engagement, and information can be accessed and shared by all participants.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
In creating media:scape, two key needs were addressed in new ways - the need for less formal, more dynamic spaces, and the need to share and develop content in real-time to support team collaboration. Additionally, Steelcase has recognized the need for Information Technology leaders to have choice in HD videoconferencing systems to support their organizations IT goals. The resulting pairing of media:scape with a broad range of HD videoconferencing systems has been welcomed by those within the industry as a ground-breaking new approach to creating videoconferencing spaces.
In the first four months of its second year, sales surpassed the entire first year volume. A broad variety of companies - including technology leaders such as HP, Cisco, Texas Instruments, and AT&T; ñ have purchased media:scape, and several higher education institutions have used media:scape in libraries, tech centers, and classrooms to reshape their spaces to match their pedagogical emphasis on collaborative learning.
For example, the leader of GE's Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center, "They help us reduce cycle times, reduce the need for travel, and help us get things done faster. This is changing the game for us."

There are several design and utility patents pending for media:scape, including those specific to the media:scape PUCKtm. Meeting spaces today are designed for leader-led participation rather than collaboration. media:scape has reshaped the collaboration experience by allowing for multiple users to share their information with a simple click of the PUCK. , The PUCK is a proprietary design, created collaboratively between Steelcase, IDEO, and Altinex, that eliminates the hassle of connecting and disconnecting multiple computers. Research informs us that an average of 5-10 minutes is lost trying to connect to common display technologies, which can cause disengagement and disrupts teams.
media:scape is reshaping the experience provided by HD videoconferencing technology companies. Since the advent of these technologies in 2005, most videoconferencing spaces are focused solely on seeing one another, and do not support the behaviors - moving around, informal postures, accessing and sharing real time information - that are required for collaborative engagement.
By creating spaces using media:scape with HD videoconferencing, the benefits of videoconferencing extend into new arenas, supporting different types of interactions, and enabling companies to grow in new ways across geographies.
