Description
Safe-N-Sound Platinum AHR Air Cushion is convertible Child Restraint for a car. For babies from birth to 12 kg (approx 12 months) in rear facing and then for children from 8 kg or preferably 12 kg to 18 kg in a forward facing mode. It's predecessor, Platinum AHR, received the Australian Design Award in 2006. The adjustable headrest includes a patented air cushion to protect children's heads in side crashes. The product is made in Melbourne using robotic assembly. The covers are made in a variety of colours to suit most tastes.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
The headrest is made with deep side wings so that the head is contained in a side crash. In addition, a patented side cushion is fitted on each side of the headrest to give a greater safety margin in extreme side crashes. When the "Air Cushion" compressed in a side crash it absorbs energy by slowly deflating through small air vent. This cushions the child's head from severe impact forces preventing potential brain injury. The headrest also has thick EPS foam for increased energy absorption. The headrest has been designed to exceed the requirements of revised AS/NZS174:2010.
This new and unique Adjustable Headrest system improves on the previous AHR design by introducing a headrest that can be adjusted as the child's grows without having to disconnect the harness straps and rethread the harness to move to the next set of shoulder strap slots. This ease of use allows parents to easily adjust the shoulder strap position avoiding incorrect use by lazy parents. The harness never has to be disconnected for cleaning or height adjustment. The harness and headrest system allows adjustment for newborns to 18 kg children through a patented headrest and harness system.
Other features, previously included in the Safe-n-Sound Meridian AHR which was awarded the Australian Design Award in 2006 includes seat belt lock-offs.
The seat also has an improved seat belt path for better crash performance.
The seat reclines into 4 positions in the forward facing mode using a frontal recline lever and has a patented latch to prevent excessive recline of the rear facing mode. A new style seat cover provides a baby friendly fabric that includes a reversible cover for the headrest and the baby insert so parents can switch between either a cool and warm feel.

Initially, the seat is fitted to the car in rear facing mode for babies less than 12 months using the patented sliding storable stabilising bar. A padded insert pad supports the baby and provided with side energy absorbing pads for lumbar protection. The seat is then turned to forward facing once the child reaches 1 year and the child continues to be retained by the 6 point harness which is only used in Australia featuring a split crotch strap for genital clearance. The seat is attached to the vehicle by the seat belt and a patented tether strap system.
The product will allow a parent to meet the new Road Rules being implemented around Australia by allowing their child to be correctly restrained up to 4 years of age in rear facing mode then in the forward facing mode. Platinum will fit children who are larger than a 95% percentile 4 year old child's so they can take full advantage of the 6 point harness before graduating to a booster seat. The product is ready to meet the revised Australian Standard AS/NZS1754:2010.
