				Description

SAYL: an affordable task chair incorporating everything Herman Miller is known for: innovative design, leading ergonomics, quality engineering, and environmental stewardship. Inspired by principles of suspension bridges, SAYL provides an unprecedented sense of freedom. An eco-dematerialised approach means SAYL has less weight, materials and environmental impact. The 3D intelligent back is the first that is literally frameless. It suspends with different degrees of tension providing sacral, lumbar and spine support and adapts to shape and movements. A range of options allows SAYL to sit equally in the home or office. A new reference point for performance, quality and appearance.

				Key Features
and/or Benefits

SAYL represents a breakthrough in seating technology. Support is moulded directly into the 3D Intelligent back material. The suspension material is stretched from the Y-Tower at the back of the chair similar to a suspension bridge. The tension is greater in the transition areas, from the thoracic to the lumbar areas and between the lumbar area and sacrum. 'Hinge points' allow these areas to flex and support the healthy, forward rotation of the pelvis. At the same time, less tension in other parts of the back encourages a full range of seated movement.

SAYL has been designed with an eco-dematerialised approach which sought to remove anything that wasn't necessary while still delivering a high level of performance and aesthetics. SAYL uses fewer materials in inventive ways. Fewer parts and less material mean less cost and a smaller carbon footprint. The ArcSpan seat base, arm structure, and tilt mechanism undercarriage are fused into a single, strong part, reducing the chair's material content and its visual 'weight'. The Y-Tower structure is sculpted and hollowed out to achieve the most strength with the least amount of material. Controls have been refined until only essential forms remain.

The arc of the chair's suspension back gives SAYL its unique, organic shape. As the first full-suspension back that it literally frameless SAYL is an elegant form that easily slips into any space and complements the objects around it, SAYL offers choices for models, features, and colours that let people express their personal tastes. A large number of options for customisation enable the versatile, coordinated SAYL family to meet the needs of residential and large-scale commercial spaces alike.

Up to 93 percent recyclable at the end of its useful life. Every material has been scrutinized down to the molecular level. Steel and aluminium components are 100 percent recyclable. Plastic components are identified with an ASTM recycling code, to aid in returning these materials to the recycling stream, and no polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used. The eco-dematerialised approach uses fewer materials in inventive ways. Producing the chairs on three continents decreases the shipping distance and chairs ship ready to assemble (no tools) in half-size boxes, which cuts down on waste. Packaging materials are part of a closed-loop recycling system.

As affordable as it is inventive, SAYL disproves the notion that a reasonably priced chair means offhand design and minimal ergonomics. From the beginning, our goal was to make a high-quality, beautifully designed, comfortable chair that lived up to our standards and was also affordable. SAYL is that chair It is backed by Herman Miller's 12-year, 24/7 warranty.
