Description
Early and accurate detection of fire incidents in buildings is crucial to public safety and corporate asset protection. VESDA-E is an Aspirated Smoke Detector (ASD). It forms a key part of the safety network that provides early warning of a fire. VESDA-E is a central detection unit which draws air from a building through a network of pipes in order to detect smoke and other harmful fumes. It is sensitive enough to detect foreign particles even before they can be seen by the human eye, and report their presence to remote monitoring systems for rapid emergency response.
Key Features
and/or Benefits
VESDA-E utilises new, ultra sensitive detection technology designed by Xtralis to be 15 times more accurate than the existing product with the ability to detect and differentiate smoke, dust and even diesel fumes. As an integral part of Xtralis’ broader Very Early Warning system, VESDA-E provides faster detection, super accurate addressability (incident location) and eliminates false alarms. Quicker reaction times help limit asset damage and improve safe site evacuation. Reduced energy consumption, greater coverage in high ceiling applications and the ability to seamlessly upgrade the system using industry first StaX modules make VESDA-E the new industry benchmark.
The team focused on customer needs to design a product that was simple and intuitive to use despite it’s complex technology. Careful planning was undertaken in the design phase to update the user interface from an old pc-based Windows system to a more user friendly touchscreen based Android interface. The new GUI is visually clear and simple to navigate, yet allows technicians to deeply interrogate the system and configure settings at detailed level onsite without the need for a companion PC. Plans are also underway to port the interface to mobile devices for additional operational flexibility.
Integrating an extruded aluminium housing with die cast assembly rings has given VESDA-E greater structural rigidity with less parts, protecting the hi-tech electro-mechanical components inside. By simply altering the CNC machining of the parts, the housing can be easily reconfigured to suit different models in the product family without re-tooling. VESDA-E’s internal technology sub-assemblies are engineered to be modular and independent, with captive fasteners and pre-fitted gaskets, making initial assembly and ongoing product maintenance simple and efficient. Clever design for manufacture means VESDA-E has increased functionality and model flexibility, whilst reducing product manufacturing costs significantly compared to it's predecessor.
A design led approach to development has meant that VESDA-E offers Xtralis customers a broad range of benefits, is simpler to use and 40% more cost effective to operate. Reduced energy consumption, increased connectivity for remote monitoring, add-on StaX modules for greater system flexibility, powerful remote diagnostic tools and the ability to simply and seamlessly retro-fit VESDA-E into the 60k existing sites worldwide help provide a holistic solution for customers. These new features and functionality enable VESDA-E to be cost effectively deployed in new applications and markets, increasing potential market share by 30%.
Xtralis has been the global leader in ASD technology for almost 30 years. To continue their strong market position they needed to not only integrate new technology into their next product range, but create an iconic aesthetic that could be rolled out for a broad family of products over the next 5 years. The clean contemporary styling and sophisticated finishes have been specifically designed to be timeless and beautiful, but not overpowering. This enables the new range to sit in any architectural setting without being intrusive, whilst still defining a bold new brand image for future Xtralis products.
